College Credit

College Credit Opportunities

Henderson High School students have the opportunity to get a head start on their post-secondary educational goals. Students can begin to earn college credit while still being enrolled in high school by enrolling in Advanced Placement, Dual Credit, Concurrent Enrollment, and/ or Tech Prep courses.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT

The Advanced Placement (AP) Program is a cooperative effort of high schools, colleges and the College Board. Students are given the opportunity to show mastery in college level courses by taking AP exams in the spring term of each school year. The examination grade is sent to the colleges of the student’s choice, which may grant credit, advanced placement or both, depending on institutional policies. The AP scores arrive at the high school during the summer. Students may or may not be enrolled in an AP course in order to take the AP examination; however, research indicates that students who take AP courses typically score higher on AP exams than students who do not. An Advanced Placement score of three (3) or above on the College Board examination may be used as one of the Advanced Measures to fulfill the requirements of the Distinguished Achievement Program. Fees and waivers may apply.

DUAL CREDIT

Henderson High School has an agreement with Kilgore College and Stephen F. Austin State University to provide dual credit opportunities for the students of HHS. Through this agreement, students have an opportunity to earn both high school and college credit by enrolling in college-level courses. To be eligible for enrollment in a dual credit course, students must have earned exemption from the TSI exam by obtaining minimum EXIT TAKS, ACT, or SAT scores in writing, reading, mathematics, or any combination as required by Kilgore College or Stephen F. Austin State University. Students who have not earned an exemption must take the TSI and meet the college requirements for admission prior to enrolling in the dual credit courses. Students who do not qualify for dual credit courses due to scores on placement exams will not be eligible to enroll. Students in Dual Credit courses must meet the attendance and grading standards of the colleges and Henderson I.S.D.

CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT

A concurrent enrollment class is a college level class offered to students for college credit only. Concurrent enrollment students earn college credit which is recorded on a permanent college transcript. These classes are provided by Kilgore College and are available during the school day, at night, and online for interested students. To be eligible for enrollment in a concurrent enrollment course, students must have earned exemption from TSI by obtaining minimum EXIT TAKS, ACT, or SAT scores in writing, reading, mathematics, or any combination as required by Kilgore College. Students who have not earned an exemption must take the TSI and meet the college requirements for admission prior to enrolling in the concurrent enrollment courses. Students who do not qualify for concurrent enrollment courses due to scores on placement exams will not be eligible to enroll.
